Die \u00c4rztin und geschulte Molekularimmunologin Dr.\u00a0McMurry-Heath wurde damit die dritte Gesch\u00e4ftsf\u00fchrerin der weltweit gr\u00f6\u00dften Biotechnologie-Interessengruppe seit der Gr\u00fcndung von BIO im Jahr\u00a01993.<\/p>\n<p>BIO repr\u00e4sentiert 1000\u00a0Life-Sciences-Unternehmen und -Organisationen aus 30\u00a0L\u00e4ndern. Die Mission der Organisation besteht darin, Unternehmen zu unterst\u00fctzen, die bahnbrechende wissenschaftliche Entdeckungen machen und Innovationen entwickeln, die wiederum dazu beitragen, die Gesundheit der Menschen zu verbessern sowie die \u00f6kologische Verantwortung und die nachhaltige Landwirtschaft zu f\u00f6rdern.<\/p>\n<p>Der rote Faden bei McMurry-Heaths Arbeit im akademischen Bereich sowie in der Regierung und der Industrie war stets ihr Fokus darauf, den Zugang zu wissenschaftlichem Fortschritt zu erweitern, so dass mehr Patientinnen und Patienten mit unterschiedlichem Hintergrund von hochmodernen Innovationen profitieren k\u00f6nnen. Angetrieben von den Erfahrungen, die sie in ihrer eigenen Familie machte, k\u00fcmmert sich McMurry-Heath um die Planung klinischer Pr\u00fcfungen und Finanzierungsunsicherheiten innerhalb der Community der Menschen mit seltenen Krankheiten und bezeichnet \u201eden Zugang zu wissenschaftlichem Fortschritt in puncto soziale Gerechtigkeit als wesentliche Herausforderung unserer Zeit\u201c.<\/p>\n<p>Bevor sie zu BIO kam, war sie bei Johnson &amp; Johnson als Global Head of Evidence Generation for Medical Device Companies und dann als Vice President of Global External Innovation and Global Leader for Regulatory Sciences t\u00e4tig. Sie half au\u00dferdem dabei, den von J&amp;J entwickelten JLabs Inkubator nach Washington, D.C. (USA) zu bringen. Sie leitete ein internationales Team aus 900\u00a0Mitarbeiterinnen und Mitarbeitern mit Zust\u00e4ndigkeitsbereichen in 150\u00a0L\u00e4ndern auf der ganzen Welt.<\/p>\n<p>Vor ihrer Zeit bei J&amp;J war Dr.\u00a0McMurry-Heath zudem als wichtige Regierungsberaterin im Bereich der Wissenschaftspolitik t\u00e4tig. Das Obama-Biden-\u00dcbergangsteam w\u00e4hlte sie aus, um eine umfassende Analyse der Verfahrensweisen, Programme und Mitarbeiterschaft der National Science Foundation vorzunehmen. Der damalige Pr\u00e4sident Obama ernannte sie anschlie\u00dfend zur stellvertretenden Wissenschaftsdirektorin des Center for Devices and Radiological Health unter der FDA-Kommissarin Peggy Hamburg. In dieser Position trat sie daf\u00fcr ein, klinische Pr\u00fcfungen weiterzuentwickeln, Evidenzdaten aus der Praxis f\u00fcr die Produktevaluierung zu nutzen und die Meinung von Patientinnen und Patienten in der Gesundheitsforschung zu ber\u00fccksichtigen, damit neue Medizinprodukte die Ergebnisse bringen, die f\u00fcr Patientinnen und Patienten wichtig sind.<\/p>\n<p>McMurry-Heath war Gr\u00fcndungsdirektorin des Programms f\u00fcr Gesundheit, biomedizinische Wissenschaft und Gesellschaftspolitik des Aspen Institutes, wo sie die personalisierte Medizin voranbrachte und die internationale Zusammenarbeit zur Vorbereitung auf pandemische Bedrohungen st\u00e4rkte. Ihre ersten Erfahrungen in der Wissenschaftspolitik machte sie bei der Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Sp\u00e4ter war sie unter Senator Joe Lieberman als Spitzenberaterin f\u00fcr die Legislative im Bereich Wissenschaft und Gesundheit t\u00e4tig. In dieser Position erarbeitete sie Gesetze zum Schutz des Landes vor biologischen Angriffen.<\/p>\n<p>McMurry-Heath erlangte ihren Doktortitel im Rahmen des \u201eMedical Scientist Training Program\u201c an der Duke University, womit sie die erste afroamerikanische Absolventin dieses angesehenen Programms war. Sie arbeitete 12\u00a0Jahre lang in der Forschung, bevor sie politische Aufgaben und F\u00fchrungspositionen in der Regierung und Industrie \u00fcbernahm.<\/p>\n<p>McMurry-Heath lebt mit ihrem Ehemann Sebastian Heath, der als Tierarzt t\u00e4tig ist, und mit der gemeinsamen Tochter Isabella in Washington, D.C.
